• Hawaii weather

The Hawaii weather is remarkably consistent with temperatures varying only slightly through the year making this an ideal all year round holiday or honeymoon destination.

The summer months of May to October see daytime temperatures reaching 29.5°C and the winter months of November to April reach 25.5°C. A variety of micro-climates exist through these diverse islands which each boasting its own weather, animals and plants. Mountains also affect the Hawaii weather, and rainforest, arid deserts and sunny beaches can all be found in close proximity to each other.

Although there may be a higher risk of rainfall through the winter months this won't necessarily effect your vacation as downpours tend to be localised so the sun is probably just around the next corner.

Water temperatures are also stable through the year with the summers boasting calm family friendly swimming and snorkeling whilst the winter sees the surf pick up for avid wind surfers and kite surfers.

Feature – Lanai, myths and legends

As with all of the Hawaiian Islands, Lanai has a rich and mysterious history that has marked the landscape in a unique way. Only 3,000 residents inhabit this smallest of the six main islands and there is only one town and no traffic lights. Often referred to as Pineapple Island due to its past as a plantation island, this Hawaiian island will charm and surprise.

Legends dating back many generations begin with the Maui chiefs who believed man-eating spirits occupied the island. Different popular myths exist but the most popular is the one of a young prince exiled by his father from Maui for pulling up all the breadfruit trees he could find. The prince survived on the island and his campfire was seen every night on the beach.

His father and chief believed the prince must have drove away the spirits to have survived and he was welcomed back to Maui as a hero. The Prince was awarded Lanai for his bravery and as Lanai has no breadfruit trees on it the legend describes the prince returning and pulling up every single breadfruit tree on the island.

The legends and myths extend into the landscape further with the tales surrounding the Garden of the Gods and Sweetheart Rock.

Located only 45 minutes from Lanai City, the Garden of the Gods has an unusual lunar landscape of rock towers and boulders. Legend tell of two priests, one from Lanai and one from Molokai, entering a competition to see who could keep a fire burning the longest. The priest on Lanai won at the cost of every piece of vegetation being burnt, thus creating the baron landscape.

Located between the bays of Hulopoe and Manele on the southern coast is the picturesque Sweetheart Rock. The lover’s tale tells of the maiden Pehe tragically drowning in a cave leaving her lover Makakehau grief stricken. Makakehau called out to the gods for help to carry Pehe’s body up the steep rocks for burial, after which he jumped from the 80-foot summit into the white surf below.

Lanai Island is a great Hawaii holiday destination well suited to couples, weddings and honeymoons.
